Eerder berichtten we al over het internet café voor jongeren in Sévaré dat mede dank zij Willem Snapper werd opgezet. Op donderdag 27 februari vond een (weliswaar zeer korte) uitwisseling (via Skype) plaats tussen deze groep en de deelnemers aan de internationale dag van de Thomas More hogeschool in Rijkevorsel. Hierbij enkele foto’s van de Malinese groep en van de studenten in Vlaanderen.

Helaas, helaas, meteen nadat de voorzitter van de Malinese vereniging, Famory, ons had begroet, viel in heel Mopti de stroom uit, en konden we niet verder communiceren. Stroomuitval is in Afrikaanse landen geen uitzondering, maar dit belet de initiatief-nemers van het project niet om ijverig verder te werken en het centrum bloeit nu volop. Famory, de voorzitter van het jongerenproject, schreef mij zopas:

“le centre est devenu actuellement un lieu d’apprentissage et de retrouvail des jeunes. Nous formons aussi les tous petits de 12 a15 ans. ”

Er volgen binnenkort foto’s van het centrum en zijn bezoekers! In ieder geval een project dat prima begint te lopen!

 In an earlier message we reported on a new project we started, together with our friend, Willem Snapper, in Sevare, near Mopti: a group of youngsters asked us to help them start an internet cafe in their neighborhood, which they themselves helped to kick start (with the support of our Mali-ka-di foundation). And on 27 February an exchange between this group and students participating in the international day of the Thomas More college in Rijkevorsel in Flanders took place (via Skype). Below there are some pictures of the two groups, the one in Mali (first) and the one in Flanders (next).

Alas, alas, just after the president of the Malian group, Famory, had addressed our European group over the Skype connection, there was a power cut in the whole of the Mopti area. Powercuts are a regular thing in daily life in most African countries, but that has not prevented the Malian group from continuing to work very hard to make the centre a meeting place and a place of instruction. Famory, the president of the Sokouro group, wrote me yesterday:

“le centre est devenu actuellement un lieu d’apprentissage et de retrouvail des jeunes. Nous formons aussi les tous petits de 12 a15 ans.” (the centre has actually become a place for learning and meeting by young people. We also run courses for the very young ones, aged 12 to 15 years.)
