Stand van Mali-ka-diAdvertising and selling

Earlier we reported about some talks we held about Mali and our projects. Meanwhile we held some more, but we also ran a stand on some flea markets. We bought a nice tent which allows us to exhibit our textiles together with other paraphernalia from Mali, as can be seen in the following picture:

Our flea market exhibition

But a much better impression can be seen on Youtube, where Youssouf Sylla plays his saxophone in our tent::

Our stand got some attention from passers-by, and we sold some bogolan textiles, some puppets, Peulh hats and the like (the money of which goes to Mali-ka-di, of course), but at least as important were the conversations with visitors, about our activities, so as to make Mali-ka-di better known in the neighbourhood and thus raise consciousness about North-South projects. This has at least had one clear result: Ronny, a local friend, drew our attention to small lamps that work on solar energy, produced by an American firm, Nokero, which we will now purchase, so that children can also read after sunset (which comes every day at 7.30 pm). Furthermore, Ronny discovered tiny solar-powered lamps used as advertising by a large bank here. We got in touch with them and acquired hundred of these tiny lamps, which Caroline, a friend, will take to Bamako next month. The idea is to give the lamps to the teachers, who can then provide them to children who want to do homework or reading in class at night.
